The Palazzo Vecchio (Old Palace) is situated in the Piazza della Signoria in Florence.
Completed in 1322, Florence's Palazzo Vecchio (Old Palace) still serves its original role as Florence's town hall. One of the main attractions at the Palazzo Vecchio (Old Palace) is a tall and imposing bell tower, that was constructed to announce Florence city meetings or to warn of flood, fire or enemy attack.
Much of the interior of Florence's Palazzo Vecchio (Old Palace) was remodelled when Duke Cosimo I moved into the palace in 1540, although the Palazzo Vecchio (Old Palace) is still fairly medieval in appearance. Although both Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo were approached to redecorate, it was Vasari who finally undertook the work, and was responsible for creating many elaborate features at the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence.
